Describe the economic downturn using between 5 and 10 cards, clearly.

  1. I think the Prince of Swords describes the narrow field of view that insiders see the market through, resulting in lots of patches and short-term victories but no real vision or responsibility for the overall picture.

I think the public's reaction is summed up by the Five of Coins, which implies that this is something people fret and obsess over but never really understand what's happening or what to do.

The Devil establishes this as a world in which the market's dismal state have crystallized into palpable misery for many, and the grotesque opulence of certain lifestyles becomes all the more apparent the further we sink into the mess.

The Three of Wands represents the optimistic spirit required to undertake the real changes required to get back on track, and the trust that the public wants to imbue in its leaders, even though we all know that the way ahead is still very unclear.

The Tower of course represents the ultimate expurgation of the corrupting influences, at an unfortunately high price for some. It also offers hope that the all of this leads to an entirely new way of seeing ourselves, our country, and our assets, starting over on a clean page.

  2. Well:
How about a modified Celtic Cross?

    So:
    -------------
    -----[c]-----
    [f]-[a/b]-[d]
    -----[e]-----
    -------------

    Where:
a/b are the basic conflict ("b" does not invert)
c/e are conscious and sublimated reflection, respectively.
f/d are memory and prediction, respectively.

    a: 10 Disks (inverted)
    b: Tower
    c: Wheel (inverted)
    d: 10 Swords
    e: 3 Disks (inverted)
    f: 7 disks
